Janine
and I are embarking on another adventure.
We will be spending the next several weeks sailing on the Chesapeake and
Intracoastal Waterway.
"Little Star'" |
At
the end of the sailing season last year we entered into an agreement with our friend,
Jim Philpott in which we will be able to share his beautiful Bristol 38.8 sail
boat, Little Star, for half of the
sailing season. This boat is so much more has such amenities as hot water, shower, refrigerator, air conditioning
and heat not to mention considerably more room than our boat. The boat is berthed in Annapolis, MD on the
Chesapeake Bay in a quiet, secluded creek within walking distance from down
town Annapolis. It is a wonderful
arrangement in which we both sail with Jim and by ourselves off and on
throughout the year.
So,
we left Somerset at 5:30 this morning heading for Parkersburg, WV to pick up
Jim on our way the Annapolis for our trip.
Upon our arrival, we fired up the A/C and spent remainder of the day
stowing our gear and getting the boat ready for our
trip. The temperature
during the late afternoon was 89 degrees so the cool air in the cabin was well
received.
Jim Philpott, our new partner |
On the first part of the trip, we will be
joined by Jim as we head for Oriental, NC where he will disembark to join a
group of friends in a bicycle rally.
From there, our plan is to return to the Bay.
We
dined at a wonderful Chinese restaurant for our evening meal and spent the
evening hours enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. Bedtime arrived early.

After
a great night’s sleep, we arose at around 7:00.
Jim had coffee made and I fixed a sausage and fried egg breakfast. For toast I tried to use the
stove top toaster to our shopping list for today.)
Osprey fishing on Back Creek near our marina. |
Most
of the day we experienced light intermittent rain. The temperature was quite a bit cooler than
the heat of yesterday but was still most pleasant.
Our
morning included stops at the West Marine where we bought several boat supplies
(they didn’t have a toaster), Fawcett’s Marine Center where we found a really
nice toaster, a grocery store, a liquor store where we bought needed supplies
and the Boat Yard Bar and Grill where we all three enjoyed a crab meat sandwich
dinner.
Back
at the boat, we were all exhausted from carting our supplies and stowing them
away so the unanimous decision was made to take long naps before moving on to
our next chores.
During the afternoon, we completed a number of chores in preparation for a early morning departure tomorrow.
Ready for an early departure tomorrow. |
We dined this evening at McGarvey's in the historic market square along the water front in Annapolis. We enjoyed oysters on the half shell as appetizers followed with red beans and rice for me and oysters Rockefeller for Janine. We both really enjoyed our meal immensely.
Back at the boat, we sat about discussing important issues before going to bed at around 9:30.
